Trip Overview

Everest Gokyo – Trek is one of the most venturesome tour packages taking place in the Khumbu region. The entire trail covers the beautiful scenery of the Himalayas in the first place likewise in the second see the impressive Holy Lakes of Gokyo.

Khumbu region is the home of the Sherpa people so you will definitely be overwhelmed by the warm hospitality offered by the local people. It ultimately is the most spectacular route in the Everest Region. The Everest Gokyo Lake Trek correspondingly avoids the regular trekking trail and takes you through a less-traveled trail.

The trek combines the best appearance of the Khumbu. It begins right after a (35mins) dramatic flight to Tenzing Hillary Airport of Lukla. On the way, you get to visit the famous Khumbu villages and settlements. Then the trek is further headed to Namche Bazar via Phakding passing the Dudh Koshi River. The trail passes through some rugged landscapes and off-beaten paths through Namche, Dole, Machhermo, and eventually onto the Gokyo Lake.

The journey is accompanied by excellent views of the Himalayas. An eyeful view of the Mt. Everest at close range together with other mountains like Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu, which are clearly visible from Gokyo Ri above Gokyo Lake is just spectacular.

Major highlights of Everest Gokyo Lake Trek:

  • The tough yet breathtaking trail below the mythical surreal peaks.
  • It offers a chance to create wonderful memories around the foothills of the Highest Himalayas.
  • Explore the high mountain wilderness, taking into the peaceful Gokyo Valley and further to the main Everest trails.
  • One of the classic treks with the additional challenge of reaching Gokyo Lake.
  • View of Everest region including Mt.Everest.
  • Hike up to the largest glacier in the Himalayas, Ngozumpa Glacier.
  • Ascend up to  Gokyo Ri (5,357 m) for excellent views of Everest, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu

How Difficult Is Gokyo Lake Trek?

Talking about the difficulty in Everest Gokyo Lake Trek, then it is moderately difficult. That is to say neither too easy nor too difficult. You have to be aware of good shape and better stamina as you will have to walk 5/6 hrs on a daily basis excluding the acclimatization day. However, the best view comes right after overcoming some difficulties.

You will be staying at elevations higher than 3,500m so as a result, the altitude might create a few problems. Likewise, as you proceed higher than 5,000m there is a probability of altitude sickness as well due to less air pressure and oxygen level. So if you are planning to go on this trek you should be aware of the difficulties and the challenges that might come your way. And walking through some difficult trails might be hectic at times.

Lastly, the ever-changing weather can add a few difficulties. In short, it might be quite challenging for beginners. Moreover, the trek definitely is possible to do taking a few factors into consideration reducing the trek difficulty and travel hassle-free. If you have the willpower and dedication then such difficulty shouldn’t be a problem stopping you from capturing all these breathtaking views nature has offered.

The Everest Sherpa Adventure team is always here to provide you with the best of the best services with 20 years of long experience. My boyfriend and I went to this tour two years ago with Rinje. The whole trekking experience was wonderful and amazing. Rinje is a very thoughtful and experienced guide. He got everything all prepared and took very good care of us! I’m glad my first time trekking in snow were with him. We got lucky enough to meet his lovely family and that was definitely the highlight of the trip: ) Totally recommend this tour and Rinje! You got to see those mountains by yourself at least one time in your life!
