Overview
Mera Peak is precisely one of the majestic trekking peaks in Nepal. It is truly a remarkable adventure into the wild area of Hinku Valley in the eastern Khumbu Region. Popularly known as Nepal’s highest trekking peak, the top of the summit offers a spectacular panorama of five peaks above 8,000m. In spite of the fact that the peak is highest, however, it is less difficult as compared to Island Peak of 6,189m.
Starting the journey from Lukla we further walk into the forest trail on the slope below the ridge and mountain cliff. Likewise, we keep on moving south the Chhuthanga walking 4/5 hrs. Then passing through the blossoming rhododendron forest and crossing Chhetra La Danda you get to witness some mesmerizing views. The journey further leads to the beautiful Hinku Valley. And the scenic view from this valley is however magical indeed!
Exploring the beautiful trail of Thagnak and Khare the trek further proceeds to the High Camp of Mera. And before reaching the High camp you certainly need 4/5 hrs to walk in the snowy trail. The journey gets more interesting as you get closer to Mera Summit. After 8/9 hrs of walking, you are finally on top of Mera Peak.
The feeling of being on top is truly unexplainable. The spectacular views of Mt.Everest(8,848m), Mt.Lhotse(8,516m), Mt.Cho Oyu(8,188m), Makalu(8,464m), and Kanchenjunga(8,586m) are worth watching. You absolutely will have a sense of Glory and feel heaven on earth.
Best Season For Mera Peak Climbing
The Autumn (September to December) and Spring (March to June) marks the best season for any trekking in Nepal so Mera Peak Climbing is no different. These seasons normally bring a long course of stable weather. In spite of the fact that the temperatures at the surface are yet incredibly cold, it is acceptable.
The weather should be stable and for that, it needs to be dry. Even if it gets warm, certainly strong winds can make climbing very dangerous. So, for a safe and successful climb, you need to be more concerned about the weather.
Likewise, the rainfall at this elevation falls as snow, and the cracking path in this doubles the difficulty of the climb.
How Difficult is Mera Peak Climbing?
Mera Peak Climbing is comparatively easier than the Island Peak. It is not as challenging as other mountain expeditions. However, it doesn’t really mean that the peak is easily achievable. There are certain factors that cause hurdles and difficulties at some point.
There are high chances of altitude sickness as you walk towards higher altitudes. You should be aware of how your body reacts at 5,000m before going to extremely higher altitudes. So, many hiking, trekking, and multi-day altitude experiences are highly recommended. Likewise, the snowy surrounding might lead to a bit of trouble in climbing.
In spite of the certain difficulties, the Mera Peak Climb is absolutely conquerable with appropriate peak climbing skills, proper gear, and a physically fit body.
